In recent years, thanks to the rapid development of the new energy vehicle industry, China's power battery market has grown rapidly, and the export volume has continued to rise. According to data from the General Administration of Customs, the export value of lithium-ion batteries in China increased by 86.7% year-on-year in 2022, reaching a historic high. In the first quarter of this year, China's exports of lithium-ion batteries continued to maintain a growth trend, with exports reaching 109.79 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 94.3%. The top five countries in terms of export value are the United States, Germany, South Korea, the Netherlands, and Vietnam, accounting for 62.6% of the total export value.

Deng Wei, Product Director of Jiangsu Tianhe Energy Storage Co., Ltd., proposed some thoughts based on the current development status of lithium battery energy storage at the 2023 China Energy Storage Technology Innovation and Application Summit. Firstly, the current utilization rate of energy storage market is not high, with the utilization rate of new energy distribution and storage being less than 10%, and the utilization rate of grid side energy storage being around 14%. The reason for the low utilization rate is twofold: on the one hand, it is due to the lack of a mechanism for electricity pricing, and on the other hand, there are many safety issues with new energy storage. Lithium ion batteries have many safety issues in their development, and a large number of products have the phenomenon of inferior coins driving out good coins, posing great potential risks to future performance. In response to the issue of low utilization, he proposed that the energy conversion effect of battery cells should be improved, and auxiliary losses should be reduced through thermal management, thereby improving the cycling efficiency of the entire energy storage system. He believes that energy storage failures can be mainly divided into four parts, namely uneven cell quality, cell abuse, electrical safety issues of the entire system, and mechanical safety issues. In this regard, Tianhe Energy Storage starts with the most basic material selection and design, choosing weakly polarized lithium iron phosphate, and the overall battery cell completely passes the durability test of national standards.

Recently, there have been rumors that the annual inspection of new energy vehicles in the future will add battery testing items. If the battery status is unqualified, it will be directly returned to the factory for repair or replacement. It is worth noting that the selected new energy vehicle models are those with a qualification rate of only 10%, which has sparked heated discussions.
